Benefits of CPOE Implementation

  • Medical error Reduction – in a 2008 study it was estimated that 12.5% of medication reduction and 17.4% medication errors averted after one year on implementation.[1]
  • Cost Reduction – Brigham and Women’s Hospital saved $28 million.
  • CDSS Integration – Inappropriate medications orders were prevented by the integrated CDSS
  • Duplicate Test Check - A checking system by physician was performed and saved $92,000
  • Interruptive/Noninterruptive Popups – Interruptive alerts was for serious issues and not crucial for noninterruptive alerts.[2]
