My name is Christopher Alex Louie and I am a current third year dental student at Oregon Health and Science University. I recently finished the first of two rotations through the Oral Surgery department at OHSU observing and assisting a few amazing surgeries in the operating room at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, OR. The procedures ranged from the use of arch bars and rigid internal fixation of the condylar fracture with a mini-plate to a full neck dissection of a patient with lymphoma. The first hands on experience I was able to participate in was upper right and upper left alveoloplasty to remove alveolar bone to the level of basal bone with rongeurs and bone files in the predoc clinic at OHSU.
