"The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects students' privacy by prohibiting disclosure of education records without adult consent." [1] There are several exceptions to this law, it was most recently updated in 2008. This update allows, "the release of student level data that has been stripped of personally identifying information and allows states to share student information in consolidated education data systems designed to improve student achievement." [1]
