The Georgetown University Consulting Team teamed up with Booz Allen Hamilton (consulting firm) to perform a study of health organizations that transitioned to [[ICD|ICD]]-10-CM/PCS <ref name="ICD-10">

The review includes lessons learned and challenges which would be used to provide documentation support for future roll outs of ICD-10-CM/PCS.

==Methodology==
Both teams organized one-to-one interviews with senior management and project managers that were transitioning to ICD-10-CM/PCS. A total of seven health organizations that kicked off implementation ahead of required deadline were selected for interviews. Survey assessments were developed and distributed prior to interviews. In addition, follow-up reviews were conducted a year after initial assessments were made.

==Results== 
The study found that most organizations were in the planning phase and attempting to communicate the rollout of ICD-10-CM/PCS. Some common observations among the respondents concluded that these projects did not include clinicians and staff to create awareness. A total of seven trends, five challenges, and five lessons learned were identified. 

==Conclusion==
The healthcare organization assessed appeared to be on target (ahead in some cases). The next steps included planning.  The goal of the study was intended to serve as a tool for future ICD-10-CM/PCS transitions. 

==Comments==
The assessments were divided into six categories. It was noted that the Communication stream was not included in the initial assessment; however, it was later included in the findings. The trends that were identified, it was the Training stream that made the most difference. It was also noted that training effort cost the most. One of the challenges also noted was the creating awareness and buy-in from physicians. Lessons learned stated that Project Managers contributed to the success of implementation roll outs.
