The RMRS was founded by The Regenstrief Institute in 1969.  Shortly, Clement Mcdonald came to the institute with the vision which provides the feed stock for clinical decision support and other application.  Today, that vision is nearly realized and expanded to include comprehensive clinical data.

The RMRS started in 1972 with 35 patients in a diabetes clinic.  It now carries records for 1.4 million patients, and adds data from about 600,000 ambulatory and 50,000 inpatient encounters per year.
