Personal and Professional Mission Statement To improve the lives of at-risk populations through innovation in research, service, and education.

Profile and Research Interests Experienced public health/healthcare professional with an outstanding record of success launching healthcare and chronic disease prevention programs with a focus on behavior change models, including community-based initiatives. Excellent knowledge and experience in community and clinical healthcare environments and administration, community-based participatory initiatives, and diabetes and other chronic disease prevention working with minority populations. Competencies in program and curriculum development and program assessment with teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in health informatics, health information technology, research methodology, healthcare administration and management, diabetes prevention, and health promotion. Unique ability to integrate research with significant hands-on experience building solutions for local and regional health improvement. Proven ability in results-oriented program management skills, overseeing diverse initiatives that have significant impact to health care and public health. Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Expertise in grants development and management, working with diverse populations and constituents. Extramural funding has exceeded $16.5 million (primary grant author) and $15.5 million (contributing author).

Areas of Research Interest: Health disparities, with an emphasis on Hispanic populations, including: the use of secondary use of clinical and administrative data to develop innovative strategies for the reduction of health disparities; application of mHealth informatics strategies in chronic disease management with an emphasis on diabetes and diabetes-related complications; usability of mobile health technology among populations with low health literacy; determinants of health behaviors among minority populations; and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR).
