Malicious software

Malicious software or Malware is a type of invasive software or code used to bring harm to another persons computer operating system. The delivery of malware is often concealed in applications dowloaded from the internet that appear to be safe to use. Malware can come in the form of computer viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, and adware designed to disrupt computer operations [1]. Methods malware can disrupt computer operations include deleting files without the authorization, slowing the speed of the computer, allowing the malware creator to gain control over the victim’s computer, and gain access to personal and financial information. Malware compromises the confidentiality, integrity, and security of a victim’s computer. Methods to prevent malware from being installed onto your computer are to install trusted malware security programs such as antivirus software or turning on a firewall to provide real time protection [2]. Antivirus software must remain up-to-date in order to protect new exploits, prevent malware from installing without authorization, ensure downloaded programs are clean, and alert the user from potential malware activity. Other methods to avoid malware are to visit trusted websites, evaluate websites before downloading programs, review already installed programs, and remove any unnecessary personal information that is not encrypted.
