This is a great start to the order set discussion...

It seems that many of us are still functioning in the paper based world and for us, order sets can be initiated with a few check boxes are really mean "pre-printed" order sets.

I would point out that order sets have been around alot longer than the challenges of CPOE and really initially functioned as a "time-saver" for clinicians in repetitive care scenarios. However, over the past several years, they have evolved in a wide variety of manners, including one being an impetus for driving CPOE adoption...or at least mitigating the potential time inefficiency that CPOE creates for busy clinicians... ~Mark Pierce, MD
