A patient’s genetic information includes the results from all genetic testing of the person, their family members and the family history. The family history typically encompasses the diseases or disorders observed in the individual’s family members. This information contributes to the prediction of the propensity of the individual to develop the disease or disorder in the future. In the United States, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act which was passed in 2008 makes discrimination against employees or applicants based on genetic information illegal.
