Secure FTP is a computing network protocol that is used to access and manage files on remote file systems. Secure FTP, or SFTP, also allows file transfers between hosts. SFTP encrypts both commands and data, preventing passwords and sensitive information from being transmitted in the clear over a network. [1]
Secure FTP is a broad term that is used to describe two types of different technologies, FTPS and SFTP, that can encrypt and authentication and data files. [2]
