On September 8, 2009, OCHIN submitted a preliminary application to the Health Information Technology Extension Program to develop an Oregon Health Information Technology Extension Center (OHITREC). The Oregon HITREC would make use of two lead partners: OCHIN and the Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU). [1]

OCHIN provides EHR implementation, support, and system maintenance and optimization to providers and practices in Oregon. Over the past nine years, OCHIN has delivered HIT solutions, emphasizing on patient management (PM) and EHR systems, to over 28 community health centers consisting of over 200 physical locations and approximately 2000 primary care clinicians.

OHSU, as Oregon's only academic health center, has implemented EHRs for more than 2,000 providers, as well as assisting more than 1,500 providers in practice redesign and quality improvement. In addition, OHSU's "10x10" initiative to train 10,000 clinicians in informatics by 2010 is preparing healthcare providers to become leaders in HIT. [2]

On September 29, 2009, OCHIN was invited to submit the full application for first round funding for the Oregon HITREC. The application was submitted on November 3, 2009. OCHIN expects to hear ONC's (Office of the National Coordinator) decision (whether the application was successful, and if so, how much) on about December 15, 2009.
